Instructional Focus Groups
Our small-group instruction is tailored to meet students at their level, ensuring they build the phonics and decoding skills they need to read with confidence.
1. Phonological Awareness & Letter Naming/Letter Sounds
- Recognizing and naming letters
- Matching letters to their sounds
- Developing early phonemic awareness
- Decode and read VC and CVC patterns
2. Phonological Awareness & CVC Patterns
- Blending and segmenting simple CVC words (e.g., cat, dog)
- Strengthening phonological awareness
- Building confidence in decoding and encoding simple words
3. Phonological Awareness & Beyond CVC Patterns
- Blending and segmenting more complex patterns (e.g., blends, digraphs)
- Expanding word recognition and decoding skills
4. Phonological Awareness & Long Vowel Patterns
- Identifying and reading long vowel patterns (e.g., “cake,” “boat”)
- Applying phonological skills to more challenging words
5. Multisyllabic Word Reading
- Decode and read multisyllabic words
- Break words into syllables for easier reading and spelling
- Build fluency and vocabulary with longer, more complex words
6. Advanced Phonics: Root Word Origins
- Explore Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes
- Understand word origins to unlock unfamiliar words
- Expand vocabulary and comprehension through word study
